Design on a Dime 2010 - a fund raiser by Housing Works
Housing Works is a community-based AIDS Activist Group committed to putting a stop to the dual predicaments of AIDS and homelessness. Since 1990, Housing Works has been rendering top quality medical, housing, education, and social services for homeless families living with AIDS in New York City and beyond.
In an effort to integrate quality interior design and donations, Housing Works put up their largest annual fundraiser, Design on a Dime. Spanning 3 days at New York’s Metropolitan Pavilion, the event benefitted the Jefferson Avenue Housing Program, a residence in Bedford/Stuyvesant, Brooklyn for New Yorkers living with HIV or AIDS. 50 interior designers were rounded up to produce room layouts comprising of new merchandise that was donated and later sold for 50 to 70 percent of their retail prices.
Consequently, over $700,000 was raised in the successful campaign that will benefit over 20,000 homeless and low-income New Yorkers.
